David Axelbank (b. 1972, Shrewbsury, UK) was raised in the Soviet Union, Israel and the USA. He graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase in 1994 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. He has lived in San Francisco, London, and is now based in Brooklyn, NY.
He has worked in the photo industry since 1993 with positions at Magnum Photos (New York and London) and Saba Press Photos. Most recently he was a Lecturer in Photography at the University of Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin School of Art, Cambridge UK.
He was selected for inclusion in the Schweppes Photographic Portrait Prize (2005), and his work was exhibited at PhotoEspaña in June 2009, as part of the Descubrimientos (Discovery Awards). His work was selected for the 2009 Creative Review Photography Annual. His editorial and commercial clients include Adidas, The Guardian Magazine, The Gap, Grazia, Sony Pictures Classic, Tank Magazine, Tate Britain, TimeOut, The Times (London) and XLR8R Magazine, amongst others.
His work has also been published in the prestigious art & literature journals Pleasure Garden, The Drawbridge, Verities and in Zioxla's Strange Plants, and most recently Strange Plants III. His archive work is represented by Gallery Stock.
